Combining state of the art precision engineering with hand-crafted finishes, Sumatra Shutters from Shutter Boutique are in a class of their own.
White teak, one of the finest quality timbers, is used exclusively in our premium, FSC approved Sumatra Shutter range. White teak’s beautiful silver colour and tight grains make it a superb material for carving and shutter production.
The high dimensional strength of white teak makes it rigid yet light, allowing for a real versatility with this range. You can tailor these beautiful shutters to your exact requirements.
Sumatra Shutters are the expert’s choice and the only FSC certified timber to be used in shutter production. FSC certified timber comes from forests that a managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner.
The manufacturing process for Sumatra Shutters
The hardwood used in the production of our Sumatra Shutters is rested for six months before being twice kiln-dried. The computer-controlled drying process takes into account the specific climate conditions in the UK. This allows the wood to settle before being treated and ensures your Sumatra Shutters won’t warp over time and will give you years of enjoyment.
The construction process for Sumatra Shutters
Super-strong mortise and tenon joints are used in the production of our Sumatra Shutters to minimise movement – movement that would otherwise cause cracking in the paint or stain finish and spoil the aesthetic look of your Sumatra Shutter. The stable construction of our Sumatra Shutters ensures they maintain their finish, shape and structure for years to come.
The finishing touches
From the wood to the finish, all the materials used in the construction of your Sumatra Shutters are of expert quality. For example, we use marine grade staples to attach our tilt rods to your shutters and coat them in a bonding agent to ensure they remain secure.
A proprietary painting system coats your Sumatra Shutters in 6 layers of paint or stain, before finishing with a clear lacquer that contains a UV additive. This protects your shutters from the sun and prevents fading and yellowing over time.
